Why is what Nedd Brockmann did so important?

Who is Nedd Brockmann and what did he do to combat homelessness one step at a time? We break it down for you in the blog below.

If you didn’t already know, Nedd Brockmann was recently crowned the fastest person to cross Australia after completing the 4000km in 47 days. The 23-year-old tradie from Forbes departed Cottesloe Beach in Perth on September 1 and arrived in Bondi Beach on Monday, October 17. Nedd ran an average of 100km per day which is the equivalent of nearly 100 marathons and raised over $1.8m for We are Mobilise to raise awareness for homelessness in Australia.

Nedd’s mission to change the conversation surrounding the shame of homelessness in Australia stems from a chance encounter on the streets of Sydney. He states in a video that, “we’re all trying to get through the day together, no one is less than you because they don’t have a house or somewhere to eat”.

After making his running debut during the pandemic, his passion for sparking change, get up and go attitude and two legs have powered him through many challenges thought to be impossible. Speaking of his latest achievement and sustaining motivation to continue on day by day he says, “if your reason to get something done is bigger than your reason to quit, then you’ll just keep going”.

We are Mobilise is an Australian charity that aims to provide recognition and functional care to our nation’s homeless citizens. Additionally, they strive to educate and raise awareness by being the catalyst for change through connection.

The reason why Nedd, We are Mobile and anyone is endeavouring to combat homelessness is because on any given night in Australia, there are 116,000 reported cases of homelessness. Homelessness does not discriminate between gender, race and age and can affect anyone in any circumstance. That is why it is so important to continue to raise awareness for those in our communities impacted by homelessness.

At Code Property Group, we strive to help provide as many people as we can with a place to call home, where they feel safe and secure. But for those who we can’t help at the moment, these are just a few of the amazing local charities helping our homeless community get back on their feet:
